Rooty Isles Base Notes
The Saladon's and Thornsoul's base isles served as both player spawn locations and where the team's flag is defended. Both base isles don't move like their smaller counterparts and are located on opposite ends of the map.
Both floating base isles were created by generating two identical terrains and placing them next to each other. The edges of both terrains were deformed irregularly to give the isles a more organic shape. The top half received details like low hills, shallow dips, gradual inclines and other terrain features. The bottom half was deformed into blocky mountains, which created hanging stalactites when turned over.
I then turned the bottom half of the terrain upside down and lined it up perfectly with the top half. Rocks were placed along the base isle's edges to create a nice trim and add a circular path around the isle's perimeter.
Base Isle Flow and Pathing
A simple Y-shaped path was created on the base isles to give players three entry points into the opposing team's base. The dinosaur egg, which is a team's flag, sat at the center of this Y-shaped path in the middle of the isle.
Combining the Y-shaped path with the circular rock path on the perimeter created multiple navigation options for players. We made sure the killzone was low enough so players could swing under the base isles as an alternate path.
