Hairston Cemetery Design Notes
Gears of War is a third person tactical shooter that only has a few horror themed levels in its campaign. Hairston Cemetery was a Gears of War level designed to push a dark and unsettling horror theme to its extremes.
Hairston Cemetery uses night time lighting, obscuring fog particles and randomly looping sound effects to create its uneasy atmosphere. The visual theme and mood was essential to crafting the level's overall gameplay experience.

A major goal for designing Hairston Cemetery was bringing quality to every part of the level. Prop placement, particle placement, lighting and the post processing were all carefully examined and designed. (See more details on Visual Notes)

Another major goal was to throw players into fun and scary enemy encounters. This was accomplished with all the work done on the cover network, pathing network and balancing of enemy waves. (See details on Encounter Notes)
