Color Science Layout Notes
I was responsible for creating both the beginning tutorial level and the main level of Color Science. The tutorial level was designed as a small environment that exposed players to all the gameplay elements. Players would be forced to use the color/collision changing mechanic to pass through walls, avoid hazards, and find door keys.
In contrast to the easy and safe tutorial level, the main level was an environment designed to test and challenge the player's skill. The beginning of the main level only required players to jump over a few pits to get them familiar with traditional platforming gameplay.
As players progressed vertically through the main level they encountered more challenging platforming gameplay. Various color platforms were arranged in certain configurations to challenge a player's skill.
Several color platforms and walls were arranged to form a vertical maze with only one way to exit. Players would start at the top of the maze and then run, drop or jump through it to gain an extra life token.
Near the end of the level, color platforms were placed within jumping distance of each other with color walls between them. Players had to properly time their color/collision changes in midair to pass through the wall and land on the next platform.
