Hairston Cemetery Lighting Notes
The night time darkness and irregular shadows helped players formulate impending danger from their overactive imaginations.
Lighting Setup
A dark blue sky light with a low brightness value was used to form the base level lighting for the entire level. A blue directional light was set behind the level's entrance in the south to represent moonlight. Another blue directional light was placed opposite of the first and was a tenth of its brightness to simulate back bounce light.
Yellow point lights placed along the sides of the main concrete path and around the level's perimeter represented lamp light. The lamp lights were supposed to both illuminate areas of the level and still leave some areas covered in darkness. The two statues in front of the mausoleum and the large eagle statue had lights placed below them shining upwards. The placement and angle of lighting gave each of the statues an unnatural and disturbing appearance. (See details on Visual Notes)

Post Processing Effects
A post processing volume was placed over the entire level to enhance the quality of shadows, colors, atmosphere and lighting. Adjusting the post processing highlight, mid-tone and shadow values added a nice color overlay to the level and created a deeper contrast between lit and dark areas.
Turning on the depth of field gave a subtle blur effect to the distant background, making the environment feel more atmospheric. The post processing added much needed final touches to the level's lighting and particle effects.
