Rocket Ronnie Tutorial Hazard Notes
Ronnie's flight mechanic was programmed to not stay in the air indefinitely. After flying for a set amount of time the rocket would sputter and run out of fuel. Only when the player had landed on solid ground, even for a split second, would the rocket's fuel instantly refill.
In the hazard tutorial level I was tasked with teaching the player about the rocket's limited fuel and how to avoid environmental hazards. At the beginning of the tutorial the player must fly across a long chasm filled with spikes and a small platform in the middle. The distance from either end of the chasm to the middle platform was just enough to make the rocket expend all of its fuel.
If the player failed to make it over the chasm then they saw Ronnie comically fall onto a spike and explode into a puddle of blood. Further in the tutorial players would encounter a hallway with spikes both sticking up from the floor and hanging from the ceiling.
