Dallas Chavis in a Nutshell
Hello, my name is Dallas Chavis and I am a graduate from the Guildhall at Southern Methodist University. I have always been fascinated with any process that stimulates my creativity. Whether I was developing new strategies for Chess or drawing out challenging mazes on graph paper, I have always found joy in creatively overcoming a challenge or creating new challenges to overcome.
Among all the different medias where creativity is extensively used, such as movies and books, I found games to be the greatest creative playground. Games not only involve making stories, characters, and cinematics, but also the creation of whole worlds, environments, rules, systems, gameplay styles, encounters and interactive elements. From a very young age I have passionately deciphered many games with the hopes of applying my own creativity for the advancement of interactive technology.

Education
In the two years that I have been at the Guildhall I have gained a better understanding and appreciation for the process of game development. In working collaboratively among the various disciplines, I have found game development to go deeper than just the combination of code, art and level building. Dealing with technology issues, integrating various assets, maintaining game functionality and directing the overwhelming vision of the game are all processes of the intricate development of games.
Hobbies
Along with my interest in creating video games, I also love playing various genres of games, reading books, watching movies and television, writing creatively for previously mentioned medias, creating analog games (board, card and dice games), creating 2D and 3D art, and playing a game of racquetball. I am also a published author of a book called "Liberator of Syria" a story about a Syrian slave that leads an army of slaves to overthrow the tyrannical rule of a dictator during the 12th century.
